This privacy policy explains what data SwingDots collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. We take a minimalist approach to data — we collect only what's needed to analyze your swing and improve the product.

What data we collect

Motion sensor data (Apple Watch). When you record a swing, SwingDots reads motion data from your Apple Watch sensors. This data is processed in real-time to compute swing metrics such as swing path, posture, and impact quality. The raw sensor readings are used temporarily for analysis and are not stored — only the computed metrics are saved.

Audio (Apple Watch microphone). During swing detection, SwingDots briefly listens to the microphone to detect the sound of a ball strike. Audio is analyzed in real-time and never recorded, stored, or transmitted. Only numerical results (like volume and pitch) are saved.

Swing data. Each swing produces metrics, detected swing issues, your selected club, and the time of the swing. These are stored on your device and, with a Pro subscription, synced to the cloud so you can access them across devices.

Your labels. After each swing, you may optionally label how the shot felt and where the ball went. These labels help improve detection accuracy over time.

Account data. If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive an anonymous identifier and your email if you choose to share it. If you use device-based sign-in, an anonymous device ID is generated. Your sign-in credentials are stored securely on your device.

Beta sign-up emails. If you sign up on our website, your email is stored to notify you about launch and updates.

What we do NOT collect

No audio recordings. The microphone is used for real-time analysis only.
No location data. SwingDots does not use GPS or location services.
No photos or videos. SwingDots does not use the camera.
No contacts, photos, or files. SwingDots does not access your personal data.
No tracking or advertising. SwingDots does not include third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking software.

Where your data is stored

On your devices: Your swing history is stored locally on your Apple Watch and iPhone.
In the cloud: With a Pro subscription, your swings sync to a secure cloud database so you can view them on any device. Your sign-in credentials are encrypted on your device.

How your data is used

Swing analysis: Sensor and audio data are processed to detect and analyze your golf swing.
Personalization: Your swing history helps the app adapt to your patterns over time.
Cross-device access: Cloud sync lets you view your history on any device.
Product improvement: Anonymous, aggregated statistics help improve default settings for all users.
Communication: Beta sign-up emails are used only to contact you about updates.

How your data is protected

All network communication is encrypted.
Sign-in credentials are stored using your device's built-in secure storage.
The cloud database is access-controlled and not publicly accessible.
No third parties have access to your individual swing data.

What's shared with third parties

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data. We use Apple's services for sign-in and subscription management, and a cloud hosting provider for data storage. Anonymous, aggregate statistics (like "average swing path for 7-iron across all users") may be used to improve the product but cannot be traced back to you.

Your choices

Cloud sync: Use the free tier for local-only storage, or Pro for cloud sync. Delete all data anytime in Settings.
Labels: Labeling your shots is optional — skip it anytime.
Delete your data: Settings → "Delete All Swing Data" removes local history. Email hello@swingdots.com to remove cloud data.
Beta emails: Unsubscribe by emailing hello@swingdots.com.
Sign in with Apple: Revoke access anytime in your Apple ID settings.

Children's privacy

SwingDots is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children. Contact hello@swingdots.com to request deletion of any inadvertently collected data.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date above will be updated. For significant changes, we'll notify you through the app or via email.
